Well there is the classic A, AA, C, and D size of battery, you could also go with the smaller but just as interesting single cell variants such as the 1/4 and 3/4 flat heads. These are a much more compact shape but lack the power and shelf life that that a AA battery would have. You then could move up to a lawn mower or even car size battery which include deep cycle, valve regulated Lead acid, lithium ion, or wet cell. You also want to take into consideration the brand, cold crank amp rating, and the plate size. My personal favorite is the Optima 8010-044 6V RedTop deep cycle starting battery.
